Visitation Policy

The Institution recognizes the importance of visitation in the maintenance of an offender's family ties. Visitation with family members is a vital aspect in the rehabilitation of an offender. The institution also recognizes that maintaining relationships with extended family members and friends is also important. Thus, friends and family are encouraged to visit but the visiting process cannot overtax the prison's ability to process visitors and provide adequate control and supervision of visiting.

Inmates in the CPSO are given the opportunity to list up to eight persons with whom they wish to visit. The visitation form is completed at the time of intake and remains in effect for a period of four months. The list must be filled out legibly and completely. Visitor's names must be on the approved visitation list. A new visitation list can be filled out every four months. To remove a person from tile list, fill Out a Visitation Removal Form. Be sure you want the person removed before you fill out the form. Visits will be assigned in accordance with CPSO scheduling. All schedules are subject to change without notice. Visitation will not take place on any holiday.

Regular visiting days are Saturday and Sunday only. Visitation for cell 100 and 200 will be on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month, between the hours of 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm for cell 100, between the hours of 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm for cell 200. Cell 300 visitation will be on the Saturday before the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00. Visitation for cell 400 will be on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month, between the hours of 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Cell 500 visitation will be on the Saturday before the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month, between the hours of 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. On months where there is a 5th Sunday, visitation for children under age 12 with pre-approved appointments by the Warden only will be on that Saturday and Sunday.

Inmates are allowed a total of two (2) visitors, per visitation day, within (2) hours. Once the inmate has visited for (2) hours, he can no longer visit. Visitors must be on the "approved visiting list" or have approval for a Special Visit in advance by the Warden of his designee. The inmate must request special visits. The Warden will approve, at his or her own discretion, special need visitation if the situation should arise. All visitors age 12 and older, must have identification with their picture on it in order to visit an inmate, this can be obtained at the Louisiana Driver's License Bureau (if the person does not have an operator's license). Only one visitor will be allowed to visit at any one time. An adult must accompany children under age 16.

The institution has a dress code relating to visitors. Proper dress is mandatory for both the visitor and inmate. Female visitors must wear bras and must not wear halter-tops, tank-tops, see-through clothing, mini-skirts or mini-dresses or any other form of enticing and/or seductive garment. NO sleeveless blouses or shirts are allowed. NO dresses that are split or open 3 inches above the knee are allowed. All visitors Must wear full-length shirts. The wearing of shorts, skirts or culottes is allowed provided the length and appearance are acceptable. Male visitors must wear belts on pants that require a belt to be worn. NO sagging pants or jogging pants will be allowed. Shirts must be buttoned in order to cover the chest completely. NO tee shirts or muscle shirts are allowed. Tee shirts must not hang longer than the outer shirt. NO bandanas or handkerchiefs worn on the head or hanging out of the pocket are allowed. Rolled up pants legs are not allowed. NO colors which relate to gangs are allowed. All visitors must wear shoes, not house slippers, thongs, or shower shoes. Individuals improperly dressed may be refused permission to visit. CPSO personnel have the right refuse any visitor entrance into the facility that is deemed inappropriately dressed.

Do not give cash or cigarettes to an inmate. Inmates may receive approved items only in packages received directly from mail-order catalog companies. Visitors should check with the inmate regarding acceptability of an item before placing tile order. All mail and packages addressed to the inmate must have his prison number as well as his full name or the item will be returned. Postage stamps are available in the canteen and are not allowed through the mail. Funds cannot be sent to inmates from other inmate's family members. NO cash, checks, or money orders will be received at the CPSO at any time. Only money orders sent through the mail will be allowed.

Occasionally inmates will receive a disciplinary penalty of extra duty due to their not abiding by the rules/regulations of the institution. The inmate is required to work this extra duty oil weekends and would not be allowed to visitor oil a weekend that he is assigned on the extra duty roster. The inmates are notified at least three (3) days in advance that they arc scheduled to work extra duty. It is the inmate's responsibility to notify the visitor(s) of this so the visitor(s) will not travel to the institution and then not be allowed to visit because the inmate is working on extra duty.

Persons under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be allowed to visit and will be escorted off the property. Persons on furlough or pass from a correctional institution or awaiting trial on a felony charge or charges in any jurisdiction will not be allowed to visit. If the visitor is a former inmate of the Louisiana DOC he or she must have been released from prison for at least one year. If the visitor is a correctional officer' or a former correctional officer they will not be allowed to visit with tile exception of mother, father, wife, brother or sister.

Smoking or the use of tobacco products by the inmate or visitor is not permitted during visitation.

No contact visitation will occur at CPSO without the written permission of the Warden.

In order to be allowed to visit, our rules and procedures must be followed. Please refer to the Rules and Regulations, which is on display in the visiting room. Failure to adhere to our rules may result in suspension of visiting privileges. All visitors at Claiborne Parish Sheriffs Office are subject to search while oil institutional grounds. Any person who transports contraband onto or inside CPSO may be referred to the Claiborne Parish Sheriffs Office for prosecution in District Court. Contraband includes but is not limited to a substance or device defined in the Uniform Controlled Dangerous substance Law, any weapons or ammunition, explosives or combustibles; any plans for escape from the institution, intoxicating beverages (la R.S. 14:402).

This notice voids all previous policies, rules, and notices.
