The Claiborne Parish Sheriff's Civil and Tax Office is responsible for the service of legal documents affecting Claiborne Parish residents and/or entities from all courts, private attorneys, state and federal agencies, parish/county and town governments. Papers are served by The Claiborne Parish Sheriff's Office Patrol Division.

  Service responsibilities include:

  • Civil Complaints (required to commence any civil court action)
  • Judicial Seizure and Sales
  • Tax Deed Processing
  • Orders of Eviction
  • Personal Property Seizures
  • Execution of Personal Protection Orders
  • Child Support Petitions

The Tax Office is responsible for collecting Property Taxes, License Fees, Fines/Levies, and Bond Fees. Other primary functions include the mailing of tax notices as well as advertising and administrating Tax Sales (for nonpayment of taxes).

Civil Deputy Melanie Perry is responsible for CPSO accounting and financial functions including: general accounting (general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, budgets & budget amendments, bank reconciliation, inventory control and audits), leases, retirement funds, tax returns, insurance, contracts, and trust funds.

Protecting Life and Property

The CPSO Patrol Division, the most public face of the Claiborne Parish Sheriff's Office, is challenged to provide continuous (24/7) parish wide surveillance, traffic control (speed checks, auto crash investigations, etc.) and timely response to calls (via our dispatch deputy), To Protect Life and Property, throughout the sizeable unincorporated areas of Claiborne Parish.

All marked CPSO patrol vehicles are equipped with Video Cameras and Speed Sensing Radar devices.

Assistance is also provided (when requested) to Claiborne Parish municipalities (Homer, Haynesville, Athens, Lisbon, Junction City, etc.), as well as State and Federal authorities.

Dsipatch Office

The CPSO Dispatch Division's Communications Center is the backbone of The Claiborne Parish Sheriff's Office. Located at the sheriff's main office in Homer, Louisiana, the communication center provides dispatch service for all divisions of the sheriff's office, Emergency 9-1-1, and fire & medical services for the unincorporated areas of Claiborne Parish as well as some parish municipalities. Functions also include multi-jurisdictional dispatching with other parishes, state and federal authorities.

The New Dispatch Room at the Sheriff’s Office is a model for other law enforcement agencies in Louisiana.

Continuous technological advances require Dispatch Division Deputies to be proficient with a variety of computer, wireless and phone systems, E-911 ANI (automatic number identifier)/ALI (automatic location identifier) terminology, Computer Aided Dispatch software, and TTY/TDD devices (used to assist the hearing impaired).

Permits Must Be Obtained At Claiborne Parish Sheriff's Office
Anyone moving to Claiborne Parish, about to begin construction on new home or building, or needing to have utilities connected, must first obtain a permit from the Claiborne Parish Sheriff's Office at 613 E. Main St., Homer, LA 71040. Application must be made no less than two weeks prior to the date the permit will be needed. For more information, call Walter Johnson at 927-2011. Permits may be picked up only on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 12:00-4:30 PM.

Fire, Search and Rescue

The CPSO Fire, Search & Rescue Division is responsible for marine enforcement of parish, state and federal Boating Laws as well as rescue activities throughout Claiborne Parish waterways.

The division is supervised by Deputy Sheriff Jeff Pugh (with The Claiborne Parish Sheriff's Office since 1977).

As beautiful Lake Claiborne and Corney Creek offer a wide variety of recreational and leisure opportunities, the safety of residents and visitors is of utmost concern to our CPSO Fire, Search & Rescue Deputies. Law enforcement activities, compliance checks and providing safety tips and advice are just a few of the functions performed by our Boat Patrol detail.

The CPSO Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has the responsibility to investigate all major crimes occurring within Claiborne Parish. The CID is under the watchful direction of Chief Detective Charles Buford.

Our personnel attend extensive training courses offered by state and federal authorities to ensure expertise with a wide variety of crimes.

Although the crime rate in Claiborne Parish is very low, over the years the CPSO CID unit has investigated and helped to successfully prosecute crimes including: drug related crimes, sex related crimes, burglary, arson, crimes against children, homicides and white collar crime.

The Claiborne Parish Sheriff’s Office Sponsors A Crime Victim’s Assistance Program That Is Operated By Deputy Donna Smith. The Program Offers Assistance To Victims Of Violent Crimes. These Crimes Include Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Battery, Survivors Of Homicide Victims, And Many Others. We Offer Crisis Counseling, Personal Advocacy, Criminal Justice Support And Assistance In Filing Compensation Claims With The Crime Victim’s Board.
